Spaces (2009)

Spaces is an interactive musical environment for CalArts' multi-touch table. It was developed in 2009 for a multi-user performance the REDCAT theater located in the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA. I wrote the visual front-end while Owen Vallis and Jordan Hochenbaum worked on the sound design. Spaces was designed to be an exploratory musical environment with a very minimal interface. Likewise, the sound produced can be described as an ambient soundscape. Although created with a performance in mind, Spaces most interesting attribute is that anyone, even a group of strangers, can work together to spontaneously compose a piece of music.

Spaces was written in Processing and uses Native Instrument's Reaktor for synthesis and sample playback. The two communicate over OpenSoundControl.
